True Detective Night Country Showrunner Issa Lopez Is Still Obsessed With Season 1 And Its Sense Of A Darker World Beneath The Surface

'True Detective: Night Country' Showrunner Issa López Is Still Obsessed with Season 1 and Its Sense of a 'Darker World Beneath the Surface'

The upcoming fourth season of HBO's anthology series 'True Detective' is set in the Arctic and stars Jodie Foster as Detective Liz Danvers.

Showrunner Issa López is a huge fan of the first season of 'True Detective,' and she says that its sense of a "darker world beneath the surface" is something that she wanted to capture in her own season.

"I was really obsessed with the first season of 'True Detective,'" López says. "I thought it was such a brilliant piece of work, and I really wanted to capture that same sense of a darker world beneath the surface in my own season."

López says that she was particularly drawn to the way that the first season of 'True Detective' explored the darkness within human nature.

"I think that the first season of 'True Detective' did such a great job of exploring the darkness within human nature," López says. "It showed us that even the most seemingly good people are capable of terrible things."

"I wanted to explore that same darkness in my own season," López continues. "I wanted to show that the Arctic is a place where the darkness can really get to you. It's a place where people can lose their minds and do things that they never thought they were capable of."

"I think that 'True Detective: Night Country' is going to be a really dark and disturbing season," López says. "But I also think it's going to be a really compelling and thought-provoking season. I hope that people will be as obsessed with it as I am."

'True Detective: Night Country' is set to premiere on HBO in 2023.
