Illinois Congressional Districts: 2022 and 2024 Elections
Geography and Representation
Illinois is divided into 17 congressional districts, each represented by a member of the United States House of Representatives. The majority of Illinois districts are located in or near the Chicago metropolitan area.
District Boundaries and Changes
The boundaries of Illinois congressional districts are redrawn every 10 years based on the results of the U.S. Census. Some states, including Illinois, have already released proposed maps for the 2024 election. These maps are subject to legal challenges and may change before the election.
For the 2022 election, the map of Illinois congressional districts is still based on the 2010 Census. This map will remain in effect until after the 2024 election.
Congressional Districts and the 118th Session
The map presented represents the Illinois Congressional Districts for the 118th session of Congress, which convened on January 3rd, 2023. Illinois has a total of 17 Congressional Districts.
Redistricting and the 2022 Election
States across the country are redrawing their congressional maps for the 2022 election. This process, known as redistricting, has been the subject of partisan debate and legal challenges.
The new maps will impact the balance of power in Congress and could affect the outcome of the 2022 midterm elections.
